Top 10 Best Restaurants in China
Choosing the top 10 best restaurants in China for this list will raise the hackles of many while getting the praises of a few mainly because of personal preferences, experiences and opinions. Keep in mind that the cuisines across China are as unique as the city or town where the dishes and desserts are served, thus, the Eight Great Traditions of Anhui, Cantonese, Fujian, Hunan, Jiangsu, Shandong, Sichuan and Zhejiang as well as Beijing cuisines (Imperial, Aristocrat and Tianjin) and the regional styles (i.e., Hainan, Shanghai, and Hubei). Add the foreign cuisines in the country and China is, indeed, a feast for the senses!
#10 Fresh (Mandarin Oriental Sanya, Sanya City)
The restaurant offers Australian cuisine with heavy influences from French and Japanese cuisine, which earns it a 4-star rating among diners. We suggest the crisp skin braised pork belly, Tasmanian pacific oysters, and Tarte au citron, all of which will make your mouth crave for more servings.
#9 Yu Restaurant (Jade Restaurant)(Ritz-Carlton Beijing, Beijing City)
Are you looking for excitement in your daily restaurant meals instead of choosing from a set menu? Then head on to the Yu Restaurant where the menu changes on a daily basis depending on the availability of the freshest ingredients, one of the reasons it is on the top 10 best restaurants in China. We recommend the Matsutake Conch Soup, the best in the area, and the Fried French Duck Breast because life is too short not to enjoy it.
#8 Grand Dragon Chinese Restaurant (The Dragon Hotel, Hangzhou)
Aside from its luxurious décor, the Grand Dragon Chinese Restaurant boasts of delicious dishes and desserts combining the great traditions of Hangzhou and Cantonese cuisines. Only the freshest local ingredients come into the plate, thus, adding to the good vibe among the diners eating in the lap of the dragon’s good fortune. We suggest ordering the Long Jing Shrimp and the Fried Shrimp with Eel.
#7 Jie Xiang Lou (Zixuan Holiday Resort, Hangzhou)
The dishes and wine as well as the service and environment are rated as four- to five-stars by its clientele including Chinese celebrities. It’s then no wonder that Jie Xiang Lou is on the list of the top 10 best restaurants in China! The restaurant’s delicious food offerings are a joy to eat within its breezy southern-style courtyards, said offerings of which include Vietnamese Style Short Ribs, a popular choice, indeed.
#6 Sanjianyuan Restaurant (Three Courtyards Restaurant)(Yangzhou City)
Diners can choose from three distinct courtyards, namely, Stone, Bamboo and Water, all of which have distinct architectural styles that belie their almost nondescript appearance from the outside. But diners come here for the food and the restaurant does not disappoint with its traditional Huaiyang dishes and desserts. We recommend savouring the Fried Purple Sweet Potato and the Fu Jia Yi Fang.
#5 Great China Chiu Chung Restaurant (Sheraton Shenzhen Futian Hotel, Shenzhen City)
Gourmands looking for the best restaurant with the largest selections of both Chaozhou and Cantonese cuisines should look no further than the Great China Chiu Chung Restaurant. This is an excellent restaurant with a posh décor in and out of the main dining areas – a main hall can accommodate as many as 1,200 people for grand events –but its main draw is that diners can order anything that their palates crave at the moment. Just be sure to order its famous Stewed Bird’s Nest with Sea Cucumber.
#4 Shang Palace (Shangri-la Hotel, Chengdu City)
Diners looking for the grandeur of ancient imperial China with the service provided to ancient emperors should head on to the Shang Palace. The restaurant offers the best in Cantonese cuisine in China as well as the best in wine, service and environment in this part of the country, which explains its fourth place in the top 10 best restaurants in China. Must-try dishes include Sautéed Scallops with Pine Nuts and Braised Shrimp Balls with Pickled Peppers.
#3 Chao Tai Xuan (New World Business Center, Shenzhen City)
When it comes to Chaozhou cuisine, gourmands troop to the Chao Tai Xuan and we cannot fault them with their choice. The five-star dishes, wines and service provided in the 5,000-square meter restaurant will make multiple visits a joy regardless of the relatively expensive costs. But if you can eat the best in the best environment, then every yuan is worth it. Must-eat dishes include the Scalded Haruna and Fried King Salmon’s Head with Salty Water.
#2 Imperial Palace Restaurant (Beijing)
Diners rave about the imperial vibe in the restaurant – golden yellow on the walls, archaistic décor reminiscent of opulent palaces, and excellent wait staff – as well as the freshest, most delicate and most delicious, and most exclusive dishes and desserts in the city. Try the Cold Crab and you will not be crabby despite the traffic in the city.
#1 Da Dong Roast Duck Restaurant (Nanxincang Branch)(Nanxincang International Plaza, Dongcheng District)
And the number one on our list of the top 10 best restaurants in China – Da Dong Roast Duck Restaurant widely rated as the best in terms of dishes, wine, service and environment without plunging diners into bankruptcy; the per capita consumption is 500 yuan or $79. The dishes are health-friendly, too, with the stars of the menu being the super lean roast duck, the dried oysters in Sichuan pepper-salt, and the abalone and truffle rice.

Just want to support the recommendation of Chao Tai Xuan in ShenZhen where I had dinner there tonight. The menu consisted of marinated jellyfish spiced with chili and fresh koriander. Chewy, almost crunchy and very tasteful. This was followed by a sea anemone salad that entailed some of the same virtues but in a different but hust as interseting and delightful way. We had even more lovely goods coming from the sea with a dish which I can best describe as a delicious oyster omelet served with chili and vinegar on the side. The two hot dishes were chicken which was good, but as memorable as the rest of the dishes, and a very nice dish made from seven types of mushrooms. And finally we had a steamingly hot papaya filled with a soup which according to the menu was made from the stomach of a snow frog, but which I think was actually made from the fat that surrounds the ovaria and ovirids of a female snow frog (as well as something I guess was the frog eggs or the ovirids). For drinks we had some very fine jasmin tea. It was all very delicious and with a total price of RMB 520 for two persons not expensive at all. However, should you want to spend more money then the menu does also contain dishes that are much more expensive. But I doubt that they can be more tasteful.
