Those magnificent sceneries in the movie are an important factor for the success of the movies. Of course some sites become more famous after being showed in those films. Here is a list of beautiful places where some popular Chinese movies were shot:
No. 1 House of Flying Daggers《十面埋伏》- Kossiv National Park and Lvov, Ukraine
House of Flying Daggers filming location is in Kossiv National Park and Lvov, Ukraine. These deciduous forests are right at home in the Ukraine.
No. 2 A World Without Thieves《天下无贼》 – Xiahe County, Gansu Province
“A World Without Thieves” is Feng Xiaogang’s sixth commercial film. It was shot in Xiahe County of Gansu Province, known as “the Second Tibet and Eastern Vatican”. It is the political, economic and cultural center of Anduo Tibetan area of Gansu, Qinghai and Sichuan provinces. People who saw that film were attracted by the mystery and spectacular scenery of the county.
No. 3 Crouching Tiger,Hidden Dragon《卧虎藏龙》- The Southern Sichuan Bamboo Sea
If asked to choose the best scene in the popular Chinese movie Crouching Tiger,Hidden Dragon, most people will choose the bamboo forest where Chow Yun fought with Zhang Ziyi, this classic scene was filmed in the famous Southern Sichuan Bamboo Sea, which is located near the border of Changning and Jiang’an and about 70km southeast of Yibin.

Hol Xil is the filming location of the award-winning movie Mountain Patrol. The movie shows the struggle of Tibetan antelopes and the hard life of mountain patrollers who protect the rare animal on the mysterious and charming Hoh Xil.
No. 5 Hero《英雄》- Jiuzhaigou Valley
The famous Chinese film, Hero, was shot in the Arrow Bamboo Lake in here. The Jiuzhai Valley is known as a world of magical fairytales, and for years has enchanted tourists with its mountains, forests, colorful lakes, waterfalls, and abundant wildlife.
No. 6 Big Shot’s Funeral《大腕》- Imperial Ancestral Temple
The movie, Big Shot’s Funeral, showed its unique architecture characteristics. Imperial Ancestral Temple lies to the east of Tian’anmen Rostrum and opposite of the Zhongshan Park in Beijing. It was built in 1420 during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and was served as a place to hold memorial ceremony for their ancestors.

Aershan City in Inner Mongolia is the feature site of the famous movie, The Banquet. The movie takes audiences to the attractive scenery of Aershan, by its scenes of endless grassland, snowy mountains and hot springs.
No. 8 Lovers’ Grief Over the Yellow River《黄河绝恋》- The Hukou Waterfall
The movie, Lovers’ Grief Over the Yellow River, impresses audience with the spectacle view of the Hukou Waterfall. It is the second largest waterfall in China. The Hukou waterfall is located on the Yellow River, west of Jixian County, Shanxi, and it was formed when the river flowed to the Hukou Mountains on the Shanxi-Shaanxi border.
No. 9 Raise the Red Lantern《大红灯笼高高挂》- Courtyard of Family Qiao
The well-known film Raise the Red Lantern was shot in the Courtyard of Family Qiao, Shanxi Province. It was built in the late 1700s by the then influential Qiao family. This internationally acclaimed film fully demonstrated the character of the house.
No. 10 Warriors of Heaven and Earth《天地英雄》 – Xinjiang
Although many movies was filmed in Xinjiang, the movie Warriors of Heaven and Earth have embraced all characteristics of Xinjiang. As the largest Chinese administrative division Xinjiang spans over 1.6 million kilometers.
